Message	you are using a 1 megohm 1/2 watt resistor? Are you grounding the other end of the resister to any common ground (anything metal)? Maybe you should try to use a different resistor, the one installed might be defective. You did reset your ecu after the install right? If you have a multimeter measure the resistance.
